French Embassy Launches €535,000 Aid Food Programme to Boost Food Security in Nakapiripirit and Amudat

The French Embassy in Uganda has officially launched the Aid Food Programme 2024, a major initiative aimed at enhancing food security and nutritional health in Nakapiripirit and Amudat districts.

The signing ceremony took place at the French Residence to mark the start of a project funded with 535,000 euros.

The programme, implemented by ACTED in partnership with Caritas Moroto Diocese, targets 1,500 vulnerable households, focusing on agricultural improvements and reducing child stunting.

Set to commence in August, the one-year project includes multiple interventions to benefit both direct and indirect recipients.

ACTED Country Director Amelia Savell-Boss emphasized the project's inclusive approach, noting that 66% of the households involved will be women, with priority given to households with pregnant or lactating mothers and young children.

"The project is expected to indirectly benefit around 21,000 individuals across the target communities."

"The initiative includes access to cash transfers for 1,200 households, agricultural training for 1,080 households, environmental restoration, and health and nutrition education for mothers and children. Additional efforts will promote healthy eating habits in schools and households." Savell-Boss noted.

French Ambassador Xavier Sticker highlighted the strong partnership between the French Embassy and ACTED, referencing previous successful collaborations such as the REVIVE project in 2018 and the 2022 Aid Food Programme.

These projects have significantly contributed to sustainable agriculture and food security in the region.
